On July 22, 2022 at 3:45am local time, Liliya successfully reached the summit of K2. Two weeks shy of her 63rd birthday, Liliya became the world’s oldest woman to do so – the previous record was held by US/UK Vanessa O’Brien, who was 52 years old when she ascended K2 in 2017.
Liliya became the first Belarusian on K2, as well as the first Canadian woman (who climbed as a Canadian) to do so. In 2018, Sophie Lavaud, who holds Swiss, French and Canadian citizenships ascended K2 as a Swiss.
